Day 12 we went on a muddy walk in the woods

We went to Wick Golden Valley Nature Reserve and had a brilliant walk along the river, up the hill, our shoes caked in red ochre mud.

The reserve was created from the site of an old ochre factory and there were a few remnants of that industrial past as we walk round - a man-made waterfall, bits of old and wall.
Beatrix decided she was the wildest one of all, as she dipped her feet in the water.
We played Pooh sticks...
We found some wild strawberries and ate a mini wild feast!

We spotted some insects too
We collected leaves from the trees and bushes and identified lots of different varieties.
We had to look them up in our Woodland Trust leaf identification swatch book when we got home!
